Uruguay vs Jamaica

Uruguay vs Jamaica Betting Tips and Match Preview – 13/06/2015

No Suarez, but Cavani is up there!
No Suarez, but Cavani is up there!

Despite being the holders and record 15-time winners of South America’s historical competition, Uruguay are not expected to retain their title. The suspension of Luis Suarez has hit them hard as has the injury to defender Martin Caceres, but they are not short of quality with the likes of Edison Cavani and Giorgian De Arrascaeta to call on. The mood in Uruguay is fairly pessimistic, but they should qualify from the group and will probably want to avoid Chile and Brazil in the next round. If the competition goes badly for Uruguay then boss Oscar Tabarez may find himself out of work.

Jamaica are one of two invitees to the party in Chile. This will be their first appearance in CONMEBOL’s premier competition and expectations are low given the strength of opposition. Their manager Winfried Schafer has a wealth of experience in international football and managed Cameroon to victory in the 2002 African Cup of Nations. Since taking charge of Jamaica he has guided them to a Caribbean Cup title, but his only other notable triumph was a 2-1 win over Venezuela recently. Vancouver Whitecaps striker Darren Mattocks is full of pace and running whilst the likes of Rudolph Austin in midfield and Jermaine Taylor at the back have plenty of experience to count on.

This match is a potential banana skin for Uruguay if they don’t take Jamaica seriously, but I expect the holders to win this one.

Uruguay have travelled to Chile without their superstar Luis Suarez who is still serving a ban for his infamous bite in last year’s World Cup. In his absence, Edison Cavani gets a chance to lead the line for Uruguay.  Key central defender Martin Caceres is injured and not in the squad, while Jose Gimenez is deemed doubtful following a hamstring niggle. He will be assessed.
Doubtful: Jose Gimenez (hamstring)

Jamaica’s players came through a warm-up friendly behind closed doors against Chilean club side Cobreloa during the week and they have no injury concerns ahead of their Copa America debut.

RECOMMENDATION: OVER 3.5 GOALS or First Goal Scorer – Edinson Cavani
