The UFC had another solid card last night which is good considering earlier in the year many fans were complaining about a bunch of relatively lacklustre fight nights (and rightfully so). We saw Fabricio Werdum absolutely dominate Cain Velasquez in a way basically noone saw coming as well as the long anticipated lightweight matchup between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez. The fight that stole the show though, was a featherweight matchup between Yair Rodriguez and Charles Rosa. It was a coming out party for Rodriguez who landed some incredibly athletic techniques including a leg kick where he also landed a head kick at the same time. Not only were the fights great, but our bets went 3-0 for our second big profit in 2 events so far in June! There’s really nothing better than a great night of fights capped off by a huge profit! Remember, you can only get all our bets via our CapperTek profile (which also acts as a third party verifier of our track record).
In the main event, Fabricio Werdum dominated Cain Velasquez, eventually stopping the champion via a guillotine choke in round 3. While we did point out that Werdum could potentially win the fight in our free betting tip post, we can’t claim to have predicted the absolute domination he had over Velasquez. Velasquez looked basically dead after the first round and it was likely a combo of the injury layoff and fighting at altitude that did him in. He ended up getting caught in the guillotine when he went for a lazy takedown against the still fresh Werdum. We have no interest in an immediate rematch in a fight with such a decisive ending. Cain should go back to the drawing board and have to beat at least one more contender before he gets another shot at the belt.
Our final bet of the night was supposed to be the second leg of a parlay, but became a 3 unit straight bet on Tecia Torres to defeat Angela Hill when the fight between Todhunter and Tumenov which was set to open the main card was cancelled. Torres was able to get the job done against Hill, winning all 3 rounds on most score cards and taking all 3 rounds on 2 of the three judges score cards. We profited 1.05 units on our 3 unit bet.
Our second bet of the night which was a paid betting tip was a 2 unit bet on Efrain Escudero to defeat Drew Dober. We placed the bet at 2.36 (+136) and by fight time it had dropped slightly to 2.26 (+126). Escudero made us look great, locking up a standing guillotine choke just 54 seconds into the fight and forcing Dober to tap. We profit 2.72 units.
The first bet of the night was also our biggest as we had 4 units on Cathal Pendred to defeat Augusto Montano. We beat the line movement big time on this one as we got it at 2.40 (+140), but by fight time the line had actually flipped and Pendred had become a slight favourite on some books. While we didn’t end up catching the fight, by most accounts, Montano spent most of the fight running from Pendred, even though he seemed to have an advantage in the striking. Montano was even warned at one point by the referee to engage or lose a point. It ended up going Pendred’s way (when does a decision not?) and we profit big, 5.60 units!
That was it for an awesome night at UFC 188: Velasquez vs Werdum! The net result was 3-0 on the bets for +9.39 units!
