St Etienne comes from a narrow 1:0 defeat against Bastia last weekend. Hosts from Corsica had great help from their fans that made them to make a strong start against players of St Etienne that were simply below their standard performance and couldn’t get away with points here playing quite poorly.
They were trying to play on counter attacks, but this time it was exactly opposite, as the players of Bastia were the ones who were waiting for their chances and finally got the victory with a goal scored six minutes before the full time whistle. The team now remains at fifth position, sharing the same number of points (60) as fifth placed Marseille, but also being only a point above Bordeaux. This means that they remain being in a must win situation here, as it remains to be seen how will they react after the defeat last weekend. Injured for this game are midfielder Renaud Cohade (17/1), as he remains only absentee worry for the hosts. There are couple of other injured players, but all covered with ease in their roster.
Nice, on the other side, comes from a 1:1 draw at home against Caen last Saturday evening. The game itself was quite equal one, with the visitors starting better and taking the lead, with Nice leveling up the situation after half an hour, equalizing just before the halftime whistle and finishing slightly better in the second half.
After two consecutive defeats, it was nice to see them remaining undefeated, however the team is still not completely safe regarding their Ligue 1 status, as they currently stand at 15th position five points above the first red zone placed side Evian. However, the team is surely in downtrend again, as they remain to play under pressure now. Main goalkeeper Simon Pouplin (8/0) and quite unimportant striker Said Benrahma (3/1) are already long, long term absentee injured. Fresh injury worry is defender Souleymane Diawara (14/0) who can be still covered in their roster.
Odds are satisfying enough for me. St Etienne usually wins with narrow difference so I won’t be trying handicap, but their victory here shouldn’t be questionable as Nice doesn’t seem to have weapons to resist away from home.
