Premiership action this weekend for me where Southampton will host Hull City at St Mary’s Stadium in a 15:00 kick off. Southampton started the season really well and at one point were sat in top spot, everyone knew this wouldn’t last, however, they still remain in 7th, just 1 point behind Liverpool in 5th! To finish 5th for a club like Southampton would be incredible and something I’m sure the fans would be happy with!
Since Koeman took charge at St Mary’s the Saints have played some attractive football, however, their most impressive stat of the season is that they currently have the best defense in the Premiership! Southampton have conceded just 22 goals from their 31 league fixtures! This is one of the reason they are where they are in the league.
Southampton’s last 9 league fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals and they have just conceded 6 goals in their last 9. For me they’ve been struggling to score goals also, I’m a big fan of Shane Long and Pelle, however, I think they’ve struggled since the start of the season. Southampton also head into this game having won their last 2 home fixtures (1-0 vs Palace and 2-0 vs Burnley). So they know they are capable of getting all 3 points against a poor Hull team.
Team news for the Saints is that Djuricic has been ruled out of the game due to injury, however, Davis, Gardis and Rodriguez could make a return. Keeper Forster remains out until the end of the season!
Hull City lately have been very poor and have really struggled to score goals this season, they’ve scored just 29 league goals all season, that’s not even a goal per game on average!! Steve Bruce has been in the media lately and I think he will really be starting to feel the pressure, his Hull team are just 2 points from the dreaded drop zone! They’ve not won in their last 5 games (2 draws and 3 defeats). Hull have a poor away record also and have managed to get just 12 points away from home and have won just twice on the road and they were against Sunderland and QPR so nothing great about it.
Hull team news for the game is that Huddlestone should return and will boost a poor Hull midfield, I’m sure he will steady the ship a little and make it difficult for the Saints. However, Meyler, Ramirez and Jelavic are all out and will be missed!!
For me, I just think that Southampton will edge this game, however, knowing that Hull City are fighting for their lives it may be a boring 0-0, I’m sure Bruce will have his players set up to not concede early. I’ll be backing Southampton to win or Draw and under 2.5 goals, this is a single bet with Marathonbet and offers huge value at 2.02!! The outcome I think will be is a 1 or 2-0 victory for the Saints. Good Luck. Shibby.
