Despite quite poor results in previous few matches, Southampton still has a chance to get a European exit for the next season, but the team is now in a must win situation against Aston Villa. The team has no victory in last four rounds, coming from three defeats during these four games. Most recently, they come from a 2:0 defeat away from home against Leicester.
The team entered quite sluggish into the match, being already 2:0 down after twenty minutes of play with two goals from Mahrez. From that moment on, they tried to do something more and had much more of the ball possession, however failed to be much more concrete in the final effort. This was their fourth consecutive defeat away from home, as the Saints now remain one point away from Tottenham and Europa League ticket, two rounds till the end of the season. Being in a must win situation, no doubt that coach Ronald Koeman will be fielding his strongest possible eleven. Midfielder James Ward-Prowse is back available after serving suspension. Offensive midfielder Dusan Tadic (31/4) is injured, same as defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin (26/4) and goalkeeper Fraser Forster (30/0).
Aston Villa, on the other side, upped their form when it was needed the most and are now almost completely safe regarding their Premier League status for next season. Two rounds till the end, they are four points ahead of 18th placed Hull and even if they don’t earn a point till the end, it’s hard to see exactly them relegating, with three more teams being involved between Hull and Villans.
The team has three victories in last four Premier League rounds, as the team’s morale have been improved heavily in recent weeks – also, by defeating Liverpool in semi-finals of FA Cup, as they await big finale at the end of May against Arsenal. Coach Tim Sherwood has no significant injury worries for this game, as his team now seems to be close to full strength since his appointment. Following their most recent victory, there are little chances that he will be rotating his squad at all. Forward Libor Kozak is injured for the whole season, while the team also misses central defender Ciaran Clark (25/1) and full back/central defender Nathan Baker (10/0), also due injuries.
Open game is expected here, with both teams still having competitive motives. Southampton will be fielded up in order to finally get a victory, but the visiting side comes in a great momentum, especially working well in offense. Both teams to score and over goals are my first choices and I believe chances for it are well over 50%.
