Sevilla lost important match last Saturday suffering a 2:3 home defeat against Real Madrid, as the team looked close to equal on the field, but the visiting side were much more serious in goalscoring chances. However, it has to be said that the team wasn’t outplayed at all, but the visiting side had Cristiano Ronaldo who was a star of the night with three goals scored.
They are now three points behind Valencia, three rounds till the end, meaning that they will hardly get the Champions League ticket, but still have a nice chance in Europa League to make this season more than successful. In order to reach the finale, they have to overcome obstacle called Fiorentina and the only sure way to do so, is to get at least a victory in front of their fans, so there is no doubt that the Spaniards will try to get the win here and await the returning leg a bit more relaxed. Coach Unai Emery has no significant problem making the squad for this game, as he has not even a single injury or suspension worry.
After two consecutive losses, against Juventus and Cagliari, Fiorentina bounced back to winning ways with a 3:1 home victory over Cesena last weekend. Ilicic brought them into the double lead in the first halftime with goals in 31st and 35th minute, while Giladrino’s goal near the start of the second half made it clear that Viola will be the one who will take all three points.
Guests were only able to reduce the deficit to 3:1 in 59th minute via Rodriguez, without making further problems to Viola’s defensive lineup. This was their first victory in Serie A after four consecutive defeats, but the team still stands at fifth position, having two points more than seventh placed Genoa at position that doesn’t guarantee European football. Anyhow, they will surely come here in order to play a bit more defensive game, but in case the things don’t go well for them, no doubt that they’ll have to open up. Striker Giuseppe Rossi (no performance yet in the season) remains long term absentee, while they also miss other offensive player, Khouma Babacar (20/7 in Serie A, 5/2 in Europa League) due injury.
I expect Sevilla to dominate here and probably get the victory, however Fiorentina knows also that they can’t simply defend and once they concede, the game can easily become very unpredictable with chances on both sides. Both teams to score and over goals are my first choice here as Sevilla ins’t inspiring that much with confidence.
