The English Football League has ended now, shame, it’s going to be a long few months for everyone with no International action this year L. My bet for today will be for the Scottish Football League Play Off Final (First Leg). The game will be played at ibrox and has a kick off time of 19:45. So Rangers head into this game knowing that 2 decent performances could see them return to the Scottish Premiership. This will see them once again face their rivals Celtic so I expect motivation to be very high for tonight’s game!
New Rangers manager Stuart McCall faces his former side (Motherwell) for the first time since he left at the end of November 2014, this will be an emotional return for McCall I’m sure and a game in which I think he needs to do well in to silence any critics. McCall spent 3+ years at Motherwell and did a decent job, he then resigned and within the space of a few months managed to get the Opportunity to manage one of Scottish’s biggest teams, an opportunity I’m sure he would have struggled to turn down. He’s expressed that he is a loyal man with the press and he accepts that he came to Rangers to do a job, he will be aiming to get a result tonight sure.
So McCall’s men sealed their place in the playoff final after a 2-1 victory over Hibernian, the game was played again over 2 legs. Rangers did lose the 2nd Leg 1-0 away from home, however, the damage was done at Ibrox after they were victorious 2-0. Ibrox is a great stadium and a stadium I’ve visited several times. The atmosphere is great, especially when there is a lot at stake, like tonight for example. The first leg Rangers deserved the win, the game saw 2 goals either side of half time from Clark and Miller. Although Rangers didn’t have a huge amount of possession, they created a few chances and obviously took 2 of them. Rangers have looked good in-front of goal this season and the Rangers fans have seen 69 goals from their 36 league games. Manager McCall is set to name the same team that won the first leg vs Hibernian.
Motherwell on the other hand have had a poor season, they finished the season on just 36 points (from 38 games). In those 38 games they conceded a whopping 63 goals! Motherwell head into this game with no fresh injury worries. Motherwell manager Baraclough has acknowledged the fact that he faces a tough game tonight as the Rangers fans are electric. It’s not an easy place to go to and I think Motherwell will struggle to create many chances.
I think Motherwell will head into tonight’s game aiming to avoid defeat, I don’t think they will head into the game to try and win, I expect a solid performance and I think that Baraclough will be happy with a draw or a narrow defeat. The return leg is on Sunday at Fir Park and I think if Baraclough and his team are still in with a chance then they will be happy with home advantage. The key thing that stands out for me is Motherwell’s away form, they’ve managed to get just 10 points this season at home in the league, if the league was based on away form only then Motherwell would have finished bottom, they don’t seem to travel very well and 10 points from 19 away games isn’t great at all!
For me I’ll be backing a straight Rangers win for tonight at a price of 1.90 with BetVictor. I’d back early though as I expect this to drop. If I was to be pushed for a correct score prediction I’d go for a 1 or 2-0 win for Rangers. Good Luck all.
