Rabotnicki didn’t manage to get a positive result in the first leg, even though they were a better side. They were slightly better for almost whole game, but paid the price of mistake in 86th minute when Jelgava earned their goal, while the overall impressions were that the game was quite balance, but also that the draw would have been much more fairer result.
Rabotnicki was second last season in the domestic league, behind champions from Vardar. In the first qualifying round the team won over Estonian side Flora Tallin by overcoming their lead from the first game played in Tallin which the Estonians won 1:0, with a 2:0 home victory in second leg. They will be hoping for the similar scenario tonight as the team once again has to show their superiority in home matches. Coach Angelovski has said in a press conference that he is sure the opponent will be playing defensively, adding that they need to have patience in order to break their defense. They will start the match with three strikers – Chuma Anene, Baze Ilijoski and Marjan Altiparmakovski, which probably means that they’ll try to attack from the first moment.
Jelgava scored a late goal in the first leg which gives them great advantage for the second leg, considering how the game was developing prior to their goal. They were already a bit lucky to qualify in the first round when the team met Bulgarian side Litex Lovech and progressed thanks to away goal rule in a 3:3 aggregate score.
They have finished third in last seasons Latvian championship, behind Ventpsils and Skonto, but at the same time the team has won the Cup competition as well, having one of the most successful seasons in last years. However, this season the things aren’t going that well for Jelgava, as they only currently stand at fourth position, being already nine points away from leaders from FK Liepaja and seven points away from second and third placed sides Skonto and Ventspils. Their coach was quite convinced that all the team needs to do is to endure during the initial pressure from the hosts, so the stress will grow for their opponent. No absences were reported for the visiting side.
Rabotnicki showed in the first game that they are a better side and capable of achieving qualification here. They should only prove it now, which should be easier considering they will be playing in front of their own fans.
