With one game till the end, Paderborn is placed at the rock bottom position, having three points less than safely placed sides and must win here against Stuttgart. Victory probably won’t secure them position in Bundesliga next season, but they could get the play-out 16th position and remain alive in additional play-out round against third placed side in second Bundesliga.
They come from two consecutive defeats, against much more quality opponents such as Schalke and Wolfsburg. Most recently, they suffered a narrow 1:0 defeat against Schalke last weekend away from home, in pretty equal game between two opponents. However, neither of them looked too threatening, especially as the time progressed, but the hosts were lucky to celebrate three pointer in 88th minute with an own goal from Hunemeier. With only one victory in second part of the season at home, they don’t have much to hope for, but there is no doubt that the team will give their everything in order to improve chances of staying in Bundesliga. Left full back Daniel Bruckner (23/0) is suspended, while the hosts also miss substitute forward Marvin Ducksch (9/1) and offensive midfielder Alban Meha (18/3) who are injured.
Stuttgart, on the other side, comes from two consecutive victories and now have improved their chances of staying in Bundesliga a lot. They are currently at 16th position, being placed at play-out position, but in case of a victory here, they would surely stay in the league without any further complications as Freiburg and Hannover, teams that are just above them play each other in the last round.
Both their victories were at home, against Hamburger 2:1 last weekend and over Mazin 2:0 two weeks before. Hamburger has started the game well, taking the lead in 11th minute via Kacar, but the hosts had complete domination from that moment on, being able to overturn the result already after half an hour, via goals from Gentner and Harnik. Offensive midfielder Daniel Didavi returned from injury and isn’t fully fit, but should keep his place in starting eleven. Other than that, visitors have no other injury or suspension worries, so there is no doubt that coach Huub Stevens won’t be changing anything after two positive results.
Open game is expected from both sides, as they both struggle for their own lives in Bundesliga. Stuttgart seems to be in better form, but the team isn’t to be trusted at all, while the first choice remains both teams to score and goals here, at least for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see three or more goals already in the first halftime.
