Napoli suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on the road, this time being defeated by Roma on Saturday evening with a narrow 1:0 result. With this loss, the team fell down to sixth position at the standings and is now eight points away from the top three teams that lead to Champions League next season.
They conceded only goal in 25th minute, missing later on several chances to equalize, but the team once again wasn’t that effective. Being eight points away from Champions League, their season seems to be somehow ruined, but the team still has a chance to get the direct Europa League ticket via Coppa Italia competition. In case they progress over Lazio tonight, the team will enter the finals of this competition for the third time in last four years, winning it in previous two occasions. Coach Rafa Benitez won’t be able to count at suspended right back Giandomenico Mesto (10/0) as well as forward Michu (3/0) who is more of a long term absentee already. On the bright side, midfielder Inler (16/1) will be back in the starting lineup.
Lazio, on the other hand, comes from their seventh consecutive victory in Serie A, this time beating Cagliari on the road with a 3:1 result. Three pointer was earned thanks to goals from Klose, Biglia (from penalty kick, he also missed another one few minutes after scoring from first) and Paroli in the last moments of the game.
Whole team seems to be playing at much better level than it was the case in the first part of the season, as the team continues to be only one point away from second placed Roma, having six points more than fourth placed Fiorentina at the same time, being quite safe for their Champions League ticket at the moment. Visiting coach has said that Napoli has advantage in this one and that he knows his team has to score in order to have chances of progressing, adding that he will rest no player for such an important game. Suspended is however offensive left midfielder Keita (18/0), while injured sidelined are left back Radu (19/0), central defender Santiago Gentiletti (2/0) and long term absentee, forward Filip Djordjevic (20/7) who misses the rest of the season.
As Lazio’s coach has said, the team will have to attack the hosts in order to stay competitive here. Momentum is surely on their side and I believe tonight we will see a very open game from both sides, while goals should be scored from both ends, with Lazio being not that far away from victory as the odds currently represent.
