Monaco suffered defeat last weekend visiting Marseille and losing out 2:1, as the team jeopardized their playing in Champions League next season once more. Two rounds till the end, they are at third position having two points more than fourth and fifth placed Marseille and St Etienne, which puts them into a must win situation now.
They entered the game in a best possible way as Moutinho scored the opener in first minute, while they somehow left the initiative to Marseille in the rest of the game and actually stood well in the defense, but paid the price in the last quarter of the game. They became more and more passive, finally being punished with two goals in last ten minutes. Coach Jardim has extended his contract till 2019 and surely boosted his team’s morale in front of two deciding matches, while the home side continues to miss central defender Aymen Abdennour (24/1) and already long term absentee forward Lacina Traore (8/1).
Metz, on the other side, has already relegated and will be playing in Ligue 2 next season, as the team seems to be quite uninterested in the remaining of the season as they come from three consecutive defeats. Most recently, the team suffered quite heavy 0:4 defeat in front of their own fans against Lorient last weekend.
Even though they tried to be as aggressive as possible and actually were fighting on the pitch, visitors simply looked much more concrete during the ninety minutes and especially looked very dangerous with ball to their feet, being much more mature side. This was second consecutive match without a goal scored for Metz, as they previously also lost at home with a 0:2 result against Marseille. They overall doesn’t seem to be very interested in the recent matches, as most of them think about their further destiny and would surely like to remain playing in Ligue 1. Guests continue to miss central defenders Sylvain Marchal (17/0) and Guido Milan (23/1) and right back Jonathan Rivierez (8/0) who are all injured, but only first two played important role in the team.
Pretty much one sided game is expected here. Monaco simply has to win, at the same time playing their last game in front of their crowd, they will try to be as effective as possible. Visitors, on the other side, have no quality to resist here, while playing without motive and without two important defenders, they shouldn’t be able to remain very competitive during the game.
