Metz couldn’t do much more in a postponed game last Tuesday suffering 3:1 defeat away from home against PSG. Current leaders at the table and champions had total control over the game, they have scored twice in the first halftime and even though Metz reduced to 2:1 during the second half, visiting side was unable to threaten further in order to equalize.
Third goal of the home side sealed their fully deserved victory thirteen minutes before the final whistle. Despite this defeat, it seems that Metz has significantly improved recently, as the team had an undefeated run of four matches, with eight points gathered in those four matches. However, it’s probably too late for them, as the team still has eight points less than firstly safely placed side, but that’s the reason why this game comes as a must win for them, in order to keep glimmer of hope for salvation. Home side will have five absent players for today, as they continue to miss central midfielder Romain Rocchi (3/0), defenders Jonathan Rivierez (8/0) and Sylvain Marchal (17/0) and substitute striker Kwame Nsor (7/0). They will also miss very important central defender Guido Milan (24/1).
Marseille, on the other side, comes from more than disappointing 3:5 defeat at home against Lorient, as the final result speaks for itself, as it was one of the biggest surprises of the season in Ligue 1. Not only that they lost, but the team managed to conceded five goals during ninety minutes, even though the team managed to level up the score to 2:2 after 65 minutes of playing, coming from surprising 0:2 down result after fourteen minutes.
However, Lorient re-installed their lead, with hosts again leveling up, but the visiting side was very dangerous in counter attacks and managed to score two more goals in last ten minutes, just when Marseille tried to push for the fourth goal. After this defeat, there is no doubt that the team is in deep crisis, as it was their fourth consecutive defeat as the team now must defend their Europa League ticket, even though they were one of the most serious title contenders only four rounds ago. Central defender Jeremy Morel (28/1) is suspended for tonight’s game, while the team also misses defensive midfielder/sometimes defender Brice Dja Djedje (32/0). Midfielder Florian Thauvin (33/5) also will be missing, but anyway had disappointing performances of late.
Both teams will be searching for a victory here from very start and therefore, many goals and both teams scoring is the most logical choice here. Metz plays a bit more offensive football at home, while Marseille anyway has no other approach since Bielsa took them over.
