Here is McBookie’s Damian Walker’s first-scorer tips for this weekend. He writes: Rangers begin their play-off quest for a place in next season’s Premiership this weekend and there’s a school of thought (mine) that it may actually benefit them having to overcome two ties over two legs before meeting Premiership opposition.

Of course they could easily get knocked out before making it that far but should they reach that final game boss Stuart McCall will surely have his side better organised than had he gone straight into a decider.

Money has been coming this week for Queen of the South to take a first-leg lead but I feel a progressing Rangers will edge them out and don’t think they are actually that bad value at a shade of odds-on.

Haris Vuckic has been a great success at Rangers since being part of the controversial loan dump from Newcastle and has scored eight goals from his last 11 games. The Slovenian is 13-2 with McBookie to add to that tally with the first goal.

McBookie were keen on the chances of Alloa in midweek for their first-leg trip to Brechin and so it proved with a 2-0 away win. The Wasps have had some great results against Rangers this season, reached the the Challenge Cup Final and performed with credit all season in a strong Championship.

Brechin, on the other hand, finished seven points behind third place in a moderate league where there was little between many of the teams. We felt even money and not 13-8 might have better represented Alloa’s chance in midweek so we are more than happy to take 3-4 about Alloa for the home leg.

Alloa put away Cowdenbeath 3-0 at home on the final day of the season when it really mattered and another comfortable win looks on the cards on Saturday. Liam Buchanan scored his 14th Championship goal of the season in that game and after a mid-season slump has bagged six times in his last 10 games. Buchanan is 4-1 with McBookie to be the game’s first scorer.

In the League One play-offs it is hard to know what to make of the opening leg between Queen’s Park and Arbroath but after 36 minutes with Arbroath 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men McBookie were tweeting the tie could be over.

Somehow the Smokies pulled themselves back from the brink and pinched a 2-2 draw. They will be feeling like they have won that opener while Queen’s will be thinking they have let it slip.

Simon Murray has a big season ahead of him in 2015-16 having been signed by Dundee Utd and then loaned out to Arbroath for the rest of this campaign. But he will want to take Arbroath up and add to his fantastic 24-goal haul which included both goals last Wednesday night.

McBookie make Murray 5-1 to score the first goal and put Arbroath on the road to a play-off final.
