IT’S one down five to go if Rangers are to have any chance of returning to the top flight.
All the stats pointed to a Queen of the South win in last week’s Premiership play-off but Stuart McCall’s visitors showed they’ve got what it takes to fight for a place in the final.
It wasn’t pretty but the Ibrox men dug deep and displayed enough grit and determination to suggest they’ll finish the job in style today.
Ibrox will be packed to the rafters and the atmosphere should lift a side who have slowly recovered under McCall.
With a one-goal lead Rangers are no bigger than 1-14 at Bet365 to qualify and 8-15 with William Hill to win the second leg. Queens are 6-1 with BetVictor to win tomorrow and 8-1 to turn the tie around and qualify.
On-loan Newcastle star Haris Vuckic has scored seven goals in his last six appearances at Ibrox. He is 5-1 with William Hill to net two or more, 11-2 at Bet365 to score first and 13-8 at Bet365 to net at any time.
James Fowler’s side have scored three times at Ibrox this season and I’m sure he’ll set his side up to attack. The inexperienced boss has been talking to Norwich manager Alex Neil who guided Hamilton to glory last season despite losing 2-0 at home to Hibs in the first leg of the final. Fowler was told scoring first was crucial and to do so they are 5-2 at BetVictor.
Best bet could be both sides to score at 10-11 with Paddy Power as Queens are certain to attack in spells but going by the first leg Rangers will come through this.
The Championship play-off final between Alloa and Forfar should also see both score at 8-11 with Bet365. League One Forfar lead Championship side Alloa 3-1 from the first leg and while that could be much to overcome I’m sure the Wasps will give it a go.
They have an experienced head up front in Michael Chopra and the former English Premier League striker will be well backed at 6-1 with McBookie and Bet365 to score first but I’d prefer to be on the Englishman 7-4 at any time. His strike partner Greg Buchanan is first-scorer favourite at 9-2 with McBookie and Bet365.
Alloa are 7-2 at BetVictor to qualify and it looks too tough a task and remember away goals don’t count so 2-0, 3-1, etc would force extra time.
Forfar are a well drilled outfit with an experienced manager in Dick Campbell and he should be able to see them over the line with a draw or narrow defeat. The Loons through are no bigger than 2-9 at Skybet to qualify.
Vuckic to score (3pm)
Rangers v QoS btts
(10-11, Paddy Power)
