My Super Single was a toss-up between over 2.5 goals at Wycombe and over 2.5 at Fiorentina.
Luckily I picked the former at 11-10 because I’d have been gutted at taking the other after the Italians missed a penalty in their 2-0 defeat to Sevilla.
And that terrible spot-kick over the bar would have beaten my 1pt top treble if I’d put it up. I was pleased with Carlos Bacca scoring but Fiorentina should have been on target and made it tougher for the holders.
Tonight Scottish champions Celtic travel to St Johnstone and I’ve posted a separate preview on a match where team news will be vital with the visitors resting a few.
And in England the big match sees Middlesbrough start at home to Brentford in the Championship play-off semi-final with a 2-1 lead. Boro are no bigger than 1-6 at Ladbrokes and William Hill to qualify but I reckon they’ll increase their advantage and are 21-20 at McBookie and BetVictor.
In the League of Ireland much focus will be on unbeaten duo Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers. Dundalk tackle Derry at home and Rovers take on Longford Town. The double pays 7-10 at Paddy Power and Ladbrokes.
We made a few quid backing Dundalk on the handicaps as they won their last home game 8-1 against Bray and while they should beat Derry comfortably it will be nothing like that score.
Dundalk have won four five of their last five at home to Derry – and those scores were 5-0, 3-0, 3-0 and 4-0. So Dundalk -2 has to be considered at 12-5 with Paddy Power and -1 is value at 5-6 with Bet365.
And after thinking about it a bit more I’m putting those up as a split Super Single.
Rovers have won their last four against Longford with the last two at home finishing 3-0 and 4-0. They are 11-10 with Paddy Power -1 but it’s worth noting they have netted just 15 goals in their 12 games – half Dundalk’s tally.
On the continent Serie B champions Carpi head to a Perugia side who will just about seal a promotion play-off spot with a win. I’ll need to look into this a bit more but with something at stake the home men are interesting at 11-13 with 888Sport.
Perugia are unbeaten in 11 although six of them have been draws while Carpi were held 0-0 at home to relegation-threatened Virtus last week having already clinched top spot.
Elsewhere there are Dutch play-offs, French lower-league matches and plenty of games across the continent.
As usual on a Friday my focus is on my Saturday Daily Record column but I’ll hope to put up a treble at some point.
