Lyon took very easy 2:0 and completely fair victory against Bastia at home on Wednesday evening. They completely dominated the field from the first moment, as the players of Bastia looked tired after playing the big finale in League Cup match. Despite the fact that they dominated from first whistle, the team needed to go deep into the second half to score the leading goal.
Opening goal was scored Yattara in 77th minute, while the result was sealed in last moments of the game via Lacazette. Coach of Lyon admitted that the match against St Etienne will determine much about his team, adding that the team remains in a must win situation in case they want the title now. After victory of PSG against Nice, there is no space for a setback here, even if it will be a difficult game. Atmosphere inside the locker rooms of Lyon is good enough, since the victory over Bastia came even though the visitors played quite organized in the defense. Offensive midfielder Yoann Gourcuff (17/3) remains sidelined with injury, same as central defender Milan Bisevac (13/0). Mouhamadou Dabo (11/0) is doubtful for this game, but with all chances to recover.
St Etienne, on the other side, comes from below average performance against Nantes, but the team still managed to pull out a 1:0 victory. Neither of the sides were too brilliant in that one, with the visitors actually having a bit more concrete chances, but the hosts took the leading goal from a nicely taken free kick in 18th minute via Tabanou.
General impression from everyone who understands football was that the draw would have been much more fairer result, as even their coach Christophe Galtier admitted the obvious, saying that the team didn’t play well, but the victory flatters for sure. With the fact that St Etienne has completed seven matches undefeated run taken into consideration, they are now bringing themselves as real candidates for the Champions League position, being only three points away from third placed Monaco, but with a game in hand. Three absentees they will have for this game, as coach Galtier can’t count at midfielder Renaud Cohade (17/1), central defenders Florentin Pogba (13/0) and Moustapha Bayal Sall (18/1), exactly same absences they had in previous matches as well.
Easy or difficult Lyon should prevail in this one. St Etienne is not that much of a real force when playing on the road and I can’t see past home victory here. Odds are too good in my opinion.
