Lincoln Red Imps surprised everyone with the result taken from the first match away in Denmark, as the team managed to stay defeated with only a narrow 1:0 result. Even so, their chances to overcome the result and progress to the third round are as good as minimal, due to quality difference between these two sides.
First game completely belonged to the Danish side, however their season was yet to begin and no doubt that their game play isn’t that fluent as it should be when the season goes into the later period. Even so, team from Gibraltar was defending mostly, trying to do something more on counter attacks, but generally were very defensively oriented. They already made one surprise when the team eliminated Santa Coloma in the first round of Champions League, by playing a goalless draw in front of their fans and they stunning the opponent away from home with a 2:1 victory, goals scored by Bardon and Casciaro in the second halftime. Disregarding everything, no doubt that they are already happy with their performances and that they know staying undefeated here would be as big as a victory.
Midtjylland, as said, took only a narrow victory in the first leg and can’t go completely relaxed into this one. However, side showed much better efficient and form in the domestic league game they played during the weekend, when they welcomed Viborg and celebrated 2:0 victory thanks to goals from Sisto, one in each halftime.
It was obvious in the first game that the Danish side lacked some more fluency, something that they are surely working on whole pre-season and should be improving from game to game. As previous champions of Denmark they surely have the biggest ambitions in the domestic league this season too, while they would like to enter the Champions League group stage too – however, knowing that Europa League group stage would be much more realistic target. Their first goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard signed for Stoke during the Summer, while Nigerian duo Sly (left winger) and midfielder Izu Uzochukwu signed for Russian sides. On the other side, they signed goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen from Reading, winger Daniel Royer from Austria Wien and most notable, central defender Kian Hansen from Nantes for 1.5 million euros plus couple of more players from Denmark.
The game will be played on artificial grass, but there is no doubt that the Danish side are used on it. They were quite dominant in the first game, but lacked more fluency and effectiveness. This should be only improved as the games are played and I can see them only being way better today.
