Despite a nice run in last ten matches, where players of Lille have seven victories and three defeats, the team remained without any chance of playing in Europe next season. They are currently at eight position, having ten points less than sixth placed St Etienne, with only two rounds remaining to be played.
Last weekend, the team undeservedly suffered 3:2 defeat away from home against Toulouse, even though they were much better side during all ninety minutes. Roux brought them into the lead in ninth minute, while Boufal re-installed the lead at the beginning of the second half, but the fighting spirit of Toulouse’s players have prevailed as the hosts scored two goals in last nine minutes of the match. Anyhow, the team played without much of competitive motives, having only goal to finish the season with a good performance in front of their own crowd. This will be probably last home game for coach Rene Girard who won’t be able to count at central back Idrissa Gueye (31/3), but also at injured full back Franck Beria (17/0) and forward Michael Frey (15/2), but also couple of more less important for Lille this season.
Marseille, on the other side, improved their chances of playing Champions League next season with two consecutive victories, which came after four defeats in a row, as the team now has two points less than Monaco and has to get both victories till the end, but also to wait for a setback of the third placed side.
Most recently, Marseille won 2:1 at home against Monaco and bounced back to Champions League ticket race, being down from the first minute when Moutinho opened the scoreline. They were better side, much more active as the visitors were generally happy with their lead and just when it looked like the game will end as an away win, all the effort paid of to the players of Marseille who managed to take the three pointer with two goals in last ten minutes, via Ayew in 80th and Alessandrini in 87th minute. Rod Fanni will be hoping to start in place of defensive midfielder Mario Lemina (23/2) who is doubtful, same as right full back Brice Dja Djedje (32/0).
Overall, very open game is expected here. Lille will try to impress their fans with another victory and offensive performance, while the visiting side anyway needs a victory here and rarely have played anything close to defensive football this season.
