Lazio had a run of six consecutive victories before they met Juventus away from home last weekend and even though it looked like they might have momentum on their side, team from Rome suffered 2:0 defeat, not being able to respond in a proper way for more than one hour. Final result was formed already after half an hour of play, thanks to goals from Tevez and Bonucci.
Till the end of the game, players of Lazio were holding the ball more and had more chances created, but lacked proper effort in the final touch. Anyhow, they remained on the second position, losing a chance to involve further in a title battle, but the team now has the same number of points as third biggest rivals third placed side Roma. They are five points ahead of fourth Europa League placed Napoli, but they need to secure the second position so the team doesn’t get involved in further Champions League qualifying rounds. Home side coach Stefano Pioli will be missing quite a number of players this time, with midfielders Marco Parolo (28/7) and Lucas Biglia (25/3) both being out injured. At the same time, they will also miss suspended goalkeeper Federico Marchetti (24/0) and central defender Stefan de Vrij (27/0) also injured.
Chievo, on the other side, comes from a 1:1 draw at home against Udinese last weekend. They had much more chances created, looked like much more active side on the field and simply did more, but were limited to a draw in quite unfair final result for them. The hosts took the lead in 38th minute via Pellissier, while the guests replied via an own goal from home defender Cesar in 71st minute.
However, the team won’t be too downhearted with how the things developed during the match, as they are far away from relegation battle this season. Currently, the team is placed at 14th position, with thirteen points more than relegated worried Cesena, so they already can build up their team for the future and rotate the squad a little, in order to test younger players for upcoming season. Striker Riccardo Meggiorini (25/3) and offensive midfielder Valter Birsa (30/0) are suspended for this match, while right back/midfielder Federico Mattiello (3/0) remains long term injured absentee.
Lazio misses few important players, but the team is playing more than great and effective football at their own ground, while the visiting side of Chievo has no competitive motives and shouldn’t be able to give a proper respond here against more than motivated hosts.
