The first round of Finnish 2nd division and north region is going to kick-off today with the game KPV-SJK/2. KPV will this season be one of the toughest teams in second division, with real quality at their team. SJK/2 has changed a lot after last season, clubs U-20 combined with SJK reserves, and now they have a young and promising squad with a huge talent.
KPV’s quality has shown already in the winters training matches too. They have won Veikkausliiga team Jaro 3-0, also rivals Kajha and JBK with goal difference 8-0. In Finland’s cup they lost to HIFK on extra time, after 0-0draw in regular. So you can say that at this moment it seems like the team is totally in the wrong league. Still they need to keep up with their level and they can’t think that they have already won the promotion with the classy team. Today’s game against SJK/2 is going to be quite nostalgic for some of the KPV’s players. There is three guys who has played in SJK and lifted SJK from 2nd division to Veikkausliiga. This trio, Aki Sipilä who was fans favorite player for years in Seinäjoki, Kim Palosaari a skillful attacker and Defender Timo Rauhala who played with SJK from the start. Also they have been able to get back few players from Veikkausliiga, who has played in KPV at the start of their careers; Dawda Bah and Patrick Byskata will be huge for KPV. Also just before the start they got the permissions to play for Gambian defender Matthew Mendy who can also be a real fighter in the defense line of KPV.
SJK/2’s all players are under 22years old, so you can be sure that they are players with bright future and they all are dedicated to go forward with their careers and going for the professional with all that they got. There is lots of Finlands U- players like Joonas Rantala, Juho Kemppainen. Also SJK is doing cooperation with 1th division team Fc Jazz, so they can have players from Jazz too in some games. Also from the SJK’s first team will give players who hasn’t played a lot to use of SJK2. Today there will be few players joining the team from the first team.
This can go either way, the lineup is going to change a lot and that can be either asset or it can hurt the team, but they all are dedicated and behaving like pro’s so, shouldn’t be any problems there. SJK2 has also shown that they can be really strong at the field too. In Last game they faced 1th division side Fc Jazz and were able to get a 2-2draw from a team that was supposed to be much better side. There were times when they controlled the game and after first half they were leading 0-1. But like many young teams there will be some up and downs with SJK2, before the Jazz game they lost to Aifk, from 2nd division but different region, 1-3. I don’t belief that SJK2 will be fighting about either promotion or relegation at this season, there will be good and bad times and they might finish to positions 5-8, which is going to be good for them.
Today KPV is a huge favorite and with a reason. They are favorites to win the promotion and with that squad they should do it, maybe not easily while there is few strong sides like Ac Kajaani and GBK also. Even though SJK will get few players from the first team, players who hasn’t got that much field time so far, maybe two from Timo Tahvanainen, Joona Ala-Hukkala, Juho Lahde. But still I don’t think that they are going to match the strong home side. KPV should be able to take this one, especially when they are going for promotion at this season.
