Juventus pulled out three points on Saturday evening against Sampdoria winning in Genoa with a narrow 1:0 result. This victory secured them the title in Serie A, but it was already well known fact that only Juventus can clinch the title sooner or later, as second placed Roma anyway had fifteen points less then them before this round played.
Only goal was scored by Vidal in 33rd minute, with Juventus remaining slightly better opponent during the match, but with players from Sampdoria also having their amount of chances. Anyhow, now that the title is settled in domestic league, fourth consecutive, all eyes are set to Champions League semi-final game against Real Madrid, a clash that they know it won’t be any easy to win. Italians are still without midfielder Paul Pogba (8 matches, 1 goal in Champions League this season) for this game due to a hamstring injury that has kept him away from the lineup since March. They also continue to miss defender Martin Caceres and defensive midfielder/left back Kwadwo Asamoah due injuries, however neither of them played very important part in Italian team this season.
Real Madrid, on the other side, comes from a 3:2 victory on the road against Sevilla couple of days ago. Cristiano Ronaldo was once again star of the night by scoring all three goals, while the home side came twice close to equalize and generally we could see an equal game on the field, but there is no doubt that the visiting side was more concrete with the ball to their feet.
With this victory, Real continued being second at the table, still having two points less than Barcelona as their title race probably continues till the last round of the season. They currently have five victories in a row, including a narrow 1:0 win over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of quarter-finals clash of Champions League that made them progress for this stage. Important striker for Spanish side, Karim Benzema is still in doubt for this game, as his fitness isn’t at the best possible level after recovering from knee injury. Gareth Bale has, on the other side, returned to the team against Sevilla and will continue to play. Midfielder Luka Modric still remains injured, but he anyway already didn’t play in last couple of months.
Somehow I believe that the Italians will go into this match in order not to concede. Draw can’t be excluded here, but I really can’t see them winning this time. Their cautious display in first leg can easily be the reason of their exclusion overall, as the players of Real Madrid seem to much more deadlier in final efforts in front of opponents goal, disregarding what formation and style they play.
