CRICKET boff Josh Healey (@JoshHealey04) is looking to extend his winning IPL streak with two bets from Friday’s action.
Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals | Friday 15.30 | Sky Sports 2
Mumbai host Rajasthan at the Wankhede in what should be a close fought encounter. Rajasthan have been left frustrated after losing two games, including one via a super over, followed by having two washed out. They will be raring to go against a Mumbai side that will be feeling as though they have turned a corner.
A lack of consistency in team selection and no-shows from their overseas players saw Mumbai lose their first four games, but the Indians have won two of their last three. A key catalyst in this much-needed turnaround has been Lasith Malinga rediscovering his form, which brings me onto my first bet for this game.
I’m backing Malinga to get the Best Economy Rate at 5/1 with StanJames. For this bet to win, Malinga will have to better the economy rates of Pravin Tambe, Harbhajan Singh, Chris Morris, Mitchell McClenaghan and James Faulkner. Morris probably won’t play, in which case the odds will be reduced, and I’m confident Malinga will beat Faulkner, who has been very expensive this season. Tambe, Harbhajan and McClenaghan is where the stiff competition lies, but at 5/1 Malinga is the stand out value.
McClenaghan’s raw pace and bounce could see him travel, and Rajasthan have some excellent players of spin who could well put Harbhajan on the back foot. Meanwhile, Tambe has struggled in his last two games for Rajasthan, and there’s a good chance Mumbai’s hitters will target him.
With his spearing yorkers and well-disguised slower balls, an on song Malinga is a handful for any batsman. Rajasthan are a clever side and I have a feeling they may try and nullify Malinga’s wicket-taking threat rather than going after him, as he looks to be reinstating himself as Mumbai’s best bowler.
The Sri Lankan seamer looked out of sorts in the first five games, but in the last two has picked up impressive figures of 1/23 (v Delhi at Kotla), and most recently 4/23 (v Hyderabad at Wankhede). He looks to be back to his best, which adds a whole new dimension to this Mumbai side.
Another bet I’m placing for this match is unfortunately an odds-on shot, but I can’t pass up the line on offer. Coral are offering odds of 4/6 on there being Over 11.5 Sixes in this match. It’s a bet that would’ve landed in 5/7 of Mumbai’s games this season, including 2/3 at the Wankhede. It also would’ve won in 5/6 at the Wankhede last season, with 16 sixes being hit on average over those six games.
For Rajasthan it only would’ve landed in 2/7 this season, but three of those matches were low scoring encounters and so the bet never really stood a chance. I’m expecting a fair few runs in this match given the good batting track and short boundaries, so the bet should have a better chance.
The average first innings score at the Wankhede from IPL’s 2014-15 is 180 (9 games). In the two matches between these sides last season, 17 sixes were hit at Ahmedabad and 21 at the Wankhede.
I think certain bowlers could be targeted and we should see some aggressive batting from both sides. Mumbai’s new found confidence and Rajasthan’s eagerness to rediscover their form should make for a competitive match.
Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals – Over 11.5 Total Sixes (4/6 Coral)
Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals – Lasith Malinga to have the Best Economy Rate (5/1 Stan James)
