In the last game before tonight’s one, Granada comes from a 3:0 defeat away to Almeria, threatening very little during the progress, but conceding three goals, one in first halftime and two in the second part. The team once again seemed powerless to resist away from home, being now in bigger relegation trouble.
With this result, the team completed five consecutive matches without a victory, having three defeats and two draws in the progress, while they remained second from the bottom on the table, four points away from salvation positions. At their own stadium, Granada is still undefeated in last three matches, having two draws and a victory and now has no other position but to search for a three pointer here as well. Coach won’t be able to count at central defenders Jeison Murillo (19/0) and Babin (30/1) and it will be quite a blow for the home team. Diego Mainz and Juan Cala have suffered some discomforts in the previous game, but should be available for selection here. Midfielder Javi Marquez (22/0) won’t perform here due injury.
In the last game before tonight’s one, Sevilla was back in the score in 29th minute, but didn’t give up and managed to overthrow the result in the second halftime, thanks to goals from Bacca in 72nd and Suarez in 88th minute, sealing a 2:1 victory over Zenit in the first leg of quarter-final clash of Europa League.
With this result, team of coach Emery took the slight lead in the qualification progress and mainly have confirmed that the team is currently in excellent shape, as the results were more than positive in last couple of months. After yesterday’s defeat of Valencia, Sevilla now has a chance to win and catch finally the fourth position at the standings, while coach has declared that the game against Granada is equally important as the one against Zenit. There will be no significant rotation in their squad, with the probable absence of central defender Daniel Carrico (25/0), while midfielder Vicente Iborra (20/3) remains suspended. Midfielder Stephane Mbia returns to the starting lineup.
There is a significant difference of quality between the two sides, even though Granada plays a bit more competitive football at home. Easy or hard, Sevilla should prevail here, probably with not so much goals scored.
