Gladbach failed to show their superiority last Friday evening when the team only had a goalless draw away from home against Eintracht Frankfurt. Neither of the teams looked very dangerous during the game, with both of them being quite limited in offense and sticking to defensive tasks as the time was approaching it’s end.
However, as third placed Leverkusen also had a draw last weekend, the difference between Gladbach and third placed Leverkusen remained only a point, so the team continues to hope of ending the season at position which leads directly to Champions League. They are undefeated in last nine matches in Bundesliga, having a run of four victories in the domestic league before staying to a draw away to Frankfurt. They have no fresh injury worries, while the team aims another victory here, which would be their eight consecutive at home. Roel Brouwers will play instead of injured Martin Stranzl (25/0) at centre-back again. Apart fromt his one, coach should have no other absentee worry.
Wolfsburg, on the other side, comes into this game after a 2:2 draw away to Napoli last Thursday, game that didn’t decide much as the Germans lost the first leg with a 1:4 result and their chances were already overwritten before the second leg. As expected, Italians were only doing what was needed during the match, leaving ball possession almost completely to the German side.
Despite the flow of the game, Napoli took the double lead with goals scored within fifteen minutes at the start of the second half, while Klose and Perisic equalized the result with goals in 71st and 73rd minute. Anyhow, the team is excluded from Europa League and now continues their domestic battles being second at the table, six points above third placed Leverkusen, so their position isn’t completely safe. Maximilian Arnold could replace the injured Kevin De Bruyne (29/10) in central attacking midfielder position. Offensive Andre Schurrle (10/1) and Aaron Hunt (14/2) continue to be injured. On the bright side, striker Perisic is fully fit again and should start.
Open game is expected here, with both teams playing for all three points and more importantly, playing in offensive way all season long. Gladbach might be closer to get the victory, but Wolfsburg will also try to play as relaxed as possible and will surely have enough offensive effort so they should be able to score as well, maybe also more than once.
