Girona showed all their superiority in the previous round, when the team walked away with a 3:0 victory on the road against Recreativo Huelva. From the first moment they were much more concrete and dominant side, taking a lead already in 28th minute with a goal from Granell. Lejeune increased the lead six minutes later, while Sandaza sealed the final result in the middle of second half.
It was their second consecutive victory, with the side now being alone at the second position, with two points more than third placed Gijon. Their race for the direct promotion is still far away from finished, so there is no doubt that the team remains in a must win situation in every single game during this month. Girona is six points behind first placed Betis, but the real target remains with getting the direct promotional ticket, as any play-off brings too much uncertainty. Home side will only miss defender David Garcia (10/0) and less important forward Gerard Bordas (4/1) both due injuries.
Osasuna, on the other side, comes into this game after a 2:1 home victory over Albacete last weekend, important three pointer that keeps the team alive in the relegation battle. Currently, they are leveled up with points as safely placed Sabadell, but only only four points away from last placed Rec de Huelva.
They have earned only ten points so far away from home, which puts them at third from the bottom side in “away table” with only nine goals scored in seventeen matches played so far. Furthermore, they have lost last six matches on the road, scoring only one goal in progress. All these facts point out that the team won’t have easy time staying undefeated here, while they maybe even already plan to focus more at the upcoming home matches. First choice goalkeeper Roberto Santamaria (21/0) won’t be playing here, for seventh consecutive game, while sidelined are also defender Loties (8/0), important midfielder Mikel Merino (27/1) and forward Alex Berenguer (11/0).
Playing in front of their own fans, Girona has all the chances to secure the three pointer and approach closer to finally playing in Primera. Osasuna misses couple of important players, but even if they were to play complete, team is nowhere close to serious one when playing on the road. Easy or hard, this simply has to be Girona’s victory.
