I’ve been without internet for a few days due to a combination of electrical faults in our street and rough storms but all sorted now and I’m intending to have a piece every day this week! Will has focused a lot more on the more obscure leagues but I’m sticking with the three big European games on offer from the BPL, La Liga, and Serie A.
Hull v Arsenal, Barclays Premier League – KO @ 20:00
As things stand, one of the only things in Hull’s advantage in avoiding the drop is a superior goal difference to many around them. Following wins from Leicester and Sunderland, the relegation battle is becoming even tighter with Villa and Newcastle being further reigned in as West Brom managed to hit that magical 40 point mark! With two games in hand, sitting in third, with a very impressive goal difference, a top three place for Arsenal is almost guaranteed but it will be a matter of pride for the Gunners and they will surely be thinking that they can topple City for second place.
In the goalscorer market, the odds are actually quite surprising. If Hull can replicate the same tenacity and will to survive as Sunderland and Leicester, it could make for a cagey game. But Arsenal are 10 unbeaten in all competitions, their most recent loss being that 3-1 drumming in Monaco. In fact, it’s 9 wins from 10, only drawing to Chelsea 0-0 last time round. So in other words, I only see this going one way. I’m going for Olivier Giroud FGS @ 5/1 and Alexis Sanchez A/T @ 23/20. It is also worth noting that Giroud A/T is priced equally to Sanchez and is equally favoured if the FGS market isn’t your cup of tea. Definitely a 2/3-0 game in my eyes though.
Almeria v Celta Vigo, La Liga – KO @ 19:45
Like Hull, Almeria are by no means safe. They are caught in a relegation scrap with the likes of Eibar, Deportivo and Granada and out of those, with the exception of the last, I would probably say they’re favourites to go down. Maybe I’m just biased? I’m a big Celta fan and like to watch their games for the attacking football and for the likes of Nolito and earlier in the season, Charles, who I backed a number of times.
Celta are looking good in mid-table just behind some of La Liga’s big names like Malaga and Athletic. A decent improvement on seasons past where they have been looking a bit nervously over their shoulder, a rather similar situation to where Almeria find themselves now. It is however, worth noting that Almeria’s home form is better than their league standings suggest. Two convincing, consecutive wins against their relegation rivals and I fancy them to grab a goal. They have a tendency to rotate their squad quite a lot so it’s quite difficult to pick one stand out player. Goals come from all over the park but I really like Nolito A/T @ 29/20 and a William Hill special with Nolito A/T & Celta to win @ 3/1. 3 goals in his last three games, including one against Real Madrid, the stats speak for themselves.
Cagliari v Parma, Serie A – KO @ 19:45
Cagliari haven’t won at home since January but then, Parma haven’t won away since September. But there have been goals despite the losses and Parma are definitely the more in-form side of the two. I like Duje Cop who got two goals in a win against Fiorentina for the home side but he rarely starts. Marco Sau is preferred at an equal price of 11/10 but so is Farias. To be honest, I would wait for the lineups to be announced and go with any one of those. Cop, Sau, Farias – preferred in that order.
For Parma, again, it’s very difficult to pick one player out with most of the midfield and strikers grabbing one or maybe even two goals this season. I’m gonna go very risky with Antonio Nocerino A/T @ 3/1 as Parma’s penalty taker. However, this game is the least preferred of the three and I would really urge people to look more at the first two.
If you’re looking for that little bit more then I would look at Nolito & Giroud A/T @ 4.2/1!
Best of luck,
