Willem II had some chances to walk away with a more positive result last weekend away to Zwolle, but the team was stuck to a passive role for the most of the game, with very little things done in offensive part, even though they had fair share of ball possession. However, hosts did deserved the victory, as they simply did much more in the offense, finally getting the only goal scored back in 75th minute via van Polen.
Still, the team won’t be too disappointed with this result, as they are generally used on getting poor results on the road, having ten defeats out of fifteen matches played away from their own fans. Now, with this another away defeat behind their backs, the team is seven points away from the play-off positions and even though it’s already hard to imagine them getting a play-off ticket, they need a victory here in order to stay competitive in that battle. Manager Jurgen Streppel only continues to miss right full back Tim Cornelisse (4/0) and much more important, central defender Dries Wuytens (28/1) both out due injuries. Despite a narrow defeat to Zwolle, Streppel almost surely won’t change much in his starting eleven for this encounter.
Feyenoord seems quite sure on their third position as they have six points less than second placed Ajax and seven points more than fourth placed AZ Alkmaar, five rounds till the end. However, for sure they won’t surrender in a battle for Champions League spot as long as there is mathematical chance to reach the second position.
In order to stay competitive in it, they have to get all three points out of this game and see what happens with Ajax’s result. After coming from a 4:1 victory on the road against AZ Alkmaar last weekend, there is no doubt that the team is in a superb form as they have four victories in a row now. Previous to that, players of Feyenoord won over PSV at home, so no doubt that the side is now fired up to finish the season in a best possible manner. Coach Fred Rutten has no injured or suspended players for this one and will surely field his best starting eleven, making probably no change in comparison to previous matches.
Willem II plays in much more offensive style when they play at home and this should result with over goals in this one. Most often they do manage to score two goals at least and today’s game shouldn’t be much different. Feyenoord, on the other side, remains slight favorite, but will have to respond with attacking style in case they want all three points.
