After two great results in home matches, draw against Roma and victory over Napoli, Verona made a setback having only a 3:3 draw against Cesena last weekend. Even though the visitors did deserve their point in this game, it has to be said that it came a bit suddenly and out of nowhere, as the hosts were leading 3:0 twenty minutes before the final whistle.
Everything went as expected for the players of Verona, as they took the double lead at the halftime with goals from Toni in third minute and Gomez in 31st, while Luca Toni scored his second in 62nd minute. However, somehow they stopped playing and it was all about Cesena, team that managed to score three goals in last twenty minutes, three goals within eleven minutes. It seems that Verona plays a bit better against more reputable opponents, so this game against Inter comes in a right time for them. With eleven points more than red zone placed sides, the team can continue with their more relaxed and offensive approach. Both Juanito Gomez and Jacopo Sala are expected to start here after missing the matches before international break. Coach Andrea Mandorlini will only miss midfielder Artur Ionita (18/2) who is injured.
Inter, on the other side, is going nowhere with their form in last two months. At one point, it looked like the team will be able to fight for a European ticket, maybe even for a Champions League ticket, but since then, they are on a run of five matches with no victory in Serie A, counting seven matches streak without victory thanks to two defeats from Wolfsburg in Europa League.
In the most recent game, the team managed to disappoint even more, as they were held only to a 1:1 draw at home against Parma. Guarin brought them into the lead in the middle of the first halftime, while Lila equalized in 44th minute. They had whole second half to restore the lead, but despite some of the chances created, result remained the same meaning that they are now practically out of chances to get the Europa League ticket, being ten points away from these positions. Right back Jonathan (3/0), left defender Dodo (18/1) and defensive midfielder Zdravko Kuzmanovic (19/1) continue to miss due injuries.
Current form is completely with Verona this time. Hosts might not win, but they surely have all the quality to stay undefeated in this one. Even if Inter puts up a good offensive performance, their defense was terrible in so many matches this season and generally isn’t coping well with the pressure away.
