IT’S another busy day in England with Palace hosting Man City and loads of games in the Football League.
I’ve posted a separate preview on the Premier League game and have picked out my best bets from the lower leagues.
On Sunday Valencia beat the Super Single but my 4-1 Top Treble came up thanks to Bordeaux, Hertha Berlin and Barcelona.
Easter Monday sees the continuation of the usual frantic fixture list and it’s worth remembering fatigue may play a part with some sides. We’re getting to the business end of a hectic season now and I’m focusing on sides with plenty to play for.
Most Championship sides were in action on Friday and on Monday the Super Single was between Brentford and Derby – and in the end I’m going with Derby who are a slightly bigger price.
Derby are down to sixth after a run of seven games without a win so they need to get back on track now and a visit to Wigan gives them their best chance. Wigan’s run of four away wins in a row was ended at Middlesbrough on Friday but at home they can’t buy three points as we know only too well.
They have no victories under Malky Mackay at the DW and their last home success came back in August against Birmingham. Derby were held 2-2 by Watford on Friday and it wasn’t a great result against 10 men.
Steve McClaren, without George Thorne but possibly with top scorer Chris Martin back, will be looking for his men to take advantage of a match against relegation fodder. Derby are a best 13-10 at BetVictor and that’s half the Super Single.
Start the Top Treble with Brentford at home to Nottingham Forest. Dougie Freedman’s side had made a decent fist of making the play-offs but all hopes are now over after Friday’s tame home defeat to Wolves.
Brentford in the meantime were hammering Fulham 4-1 away and while their home form has sometimes been patchy I expect them to make it a happy Easter with their second big win in four days.
Add Wolves who lie eighth but are level on points with Derby and Brentford. Wolves are unbeaten in five at Molineux, winning four of to nil and scoring 15 goals in the process. £2million signing Benik Afobe, Bakary Sako and Nouha Dicko form a top attacking trip and they should beat a Leeds side whose five-match unbeaten run was ended by Blackburn on Saturday.
Assistant manager Steve Thompson has been suspended which hasn’t helped the mood at Elland Road and there are now question marks over the future of popular boss Neil Redfearn. The manager has allegedly been told not to pick top scorer Mirco Antenucci because it could trigger a contract extension if he scores 12 this season. Wolves look worth backing at a best 7-10 at 888sport.
Complete the treble with Bury at home to Morecambe. Bury have won their last four to climb to fourth and are just four points off an automatic promotion spot with a game in hand. Morecambe have drawn their last three 1-1 but are without a win in eight and I like Bury at 3-4 with Bet365.
There’s a danger of putting on too many bets today and I’ll be staying away from that. However, I’m doing a 1pt line on favourites Bury, Norwich, Bournemouth, Bruges and Anderlecht. That pays 13-1 at Ladbrokes.
4pts Super Single
3pts Top Treble
Super Single April record
4 bets (3 losers, 1 winner)
