FIRST we had Dundee beating Dundee Utd – now could it be Man Utd mauling Man City.
Dee, as I predicted last Wednesday, turned their tables on neighbours who had dominated recent meetings and it’s a similar story with the fierce English rivals.
United fans could have been forgiven for looking at the fixture list at the start of the season and booking up to be away for the derby games.
Those on holiday on Sunday may be regretting their pessimism because the tide could be turning red once again.
The blue half of the city have ruled for the past two seasons with City winning four of the last five Premier League meetings between the teams – including that infamous 6-1 crushing at Old Trafford.
But following City’s surprise defeat at Palace on Monday they go into the game trailing third-placed United by one point.
So this is a great chance for Louis van Gaal’s men to put the record straight and this season they’ve done the double over Liverpool, beaten Arsenal at the Emirates and drawn with Chelsea.
Their 1-0 defeat the Etihad came after Chris Smalling’s red card and after five successive wins United will be full of confidence.
It’s tough to believe but Marouane Fellaini is almost the first name on van Gaal’s teamsheet and he is 15-4 to net at any time. Wayne Rooney is also vital to United’s hopes and he is in good form and 6-1 at Stan James to break the deadlock.
Van Gaal will be happy to win ugly but seven of the last eight derbies at Old Trafford have gone over 2.5 goals and I fancy a repeat at 10-11 with William Hill.
Over 2.5 goals
(10-11, William Hill)
