Chile to thrash Bolivia to go top!
Chile to thrash Bolivia to go top!

It has not been a good week for Chile. A disappointing 3-3 draw with Mexico was followed by one of their star players getting in trouble with the police. Arturo Vidal was arrested on the suspicion of drink-driving after speeding and crashing his Ferrari just outside Santiago on Tuesday night. Incredibly he has not been sanctioned by Chile’s national football association, the ANFP, or by his manager and will continue to represent his country.  Vidal’s ill-discipline isn’t the only problem Chile have. Their lack of ability in the air was exposed again against Mexico as was their poor defensive organisation.

Bolivia beat Ecuador last time out and claimed their first victory outside of Bolivia for 36 matches. It was their first competitive victory away from home since they beat the USA in the Copa America in Uruguay in 1995. Four points from the first two matches means Bolivia are well placed to qualify for the quarter-finals and exceed expectations.

Chile have won 25 times against Bolivia in 41 attempts. Bolivia have just six wins to their name and haven’t beaten Chile since a 1-0 win in La Paz in 2000.

Despite their victory over Ecuador, it is difficult to see this Bolivia team beating the hosts Chile. Chile have a lot problems and distractions at the moment, but they still have enough to win this one and top the group.

After an eventful week, Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli has his key midfielder Arturo Vidal available for selection. It is likely Eugenio Mena will come back in the side for Miiko Albornoz. Eduardo Vargas will probably start again, but this time in his natural position as a centre forward. Matias Fernandez could replace Jorge Valdivia in the number 10 role.

Bolivia are set to keep the same side that overcame Ecuador last time out. That means that Pablo Escobar is likely to start ahead of the injured Jhasmani Campos.
Injured/unavailable: Jhasmani Campos (leg muscle injury)
