Celtic can’t describe their start of the season as fully successful, mostly due the fact that the team stood without Champions League group stage being excluded from Swedish side Malmo against whom they were slight favorites. Anyway, they now focus to domestic league and Europa League group stage where they took an important point away from home against Ajax in 2:2 draw in group stage opening round.
Their opponents from Holland were favorites, but the players of Celtic looked rather well in that one, not being afraid to attack and generally deserved their point. They were twice in the lead thanks to goals from Bitton in 8th and Lustig in 42nd minute, but failed to keep the lead in last ten minutes of the game, while the Scottish side had to play with a man less since 74th minute when defender Izaguirre got second yellow card and had to leave the pitch. As for the domestic league, the team didn’t start completely positive having four points less than first placed Aberdeen, but no doubt that they remain big favorites to win the title with still a lot matches to be played. Left full back Emilio Izaguirre is of course suspended for this one, while injured remain defensive midfielder Charlie Mulgrew. They are set to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Leigh Griffiths upfront.
Fenerbahce, on the other side, comes from a 1:3 unexpected defeat at home against Molde and now find themselves close to a must win situation in case they want to progress further to the knock-out stage later on. The group itself is one of the strongest this year together with Ajax and Celtic and the worst thing is that the defeat came at home against a side that was looked as surely weakest link in this group.
Despite an ugly defeat against Molde, the team itself didn’t look that poor, especially not in the offense as the Turks actually had more of the ball possession and good number of chances created, but it simply wasn’t a good day for their defensive lineup. As for the domestic league, team still isn’t looking completely fluent and in great form, but are at the top of the table together with Besiktas with 4-1-1 record till now. As said, their target simply has to be a victory here, while the guests miss suspended forward Lazar Markovic. Injured are defensive Michal Kadlec and midfielder Josef de Souza. Robin van Persie might be given a start here in a 4-3-3 formation.
Fenerbahce lost two out three previous official matches and simply need to be as offensive as possible here. Scottish side is also looking for a positive result here and I see plenty of value in over 2.5 goals scored here, as well as both teams to score betting option.
