Braunschweig was between the top candidates prior the start the previous season to win promotion, however thanks to really poor ending of the season, the team stood short and ended as only sixth placed side, eight points less than third placed Darmstadt. They now want to start a new chapter for their club, aiming an easy victory at the season opening.
But not only that, sports director said in an interview before the start that their solely goal this time is claiming the promotion in the end. Out of most notable results during the pre-season friendlies as the team won over Rubin Kazan and Shakhtar 2:1, but lost to Dynamo Kiev and Rayo Vallecano with the same score. Striker Emil Berggreen probably won’t be ready for the season opener as he didn’t overcome his knee injury. Central defender and sometimes left back Ken Reichel carries suspension from the previous season.
Sandhausen, on the other side, has finished the previous season as 12th side at the standings, only two points above relegating sides which means that their relegation battle was quite difficult. This time, their target is to have much more calmer season and achieve the staying in the league in way easier manner.
Their coach has said before the start of the season that they can obtain the target only in case whole team performs as a unit, adding that avoiding relegation remains their only concern as the team starts with three points less – probably trying to relax his players as much as possible. They opted for a bit easier opponents during preparation period and the team drew against Stuttgart Kickers, but won over Freiburg, Aalen and Wurzburger Kickers. Visitors can’t count at midfielders Manuel Stiefler, Steven Zellner, newcomer offensive midfielder Jose Pierre Vunguidica and defensive midfielder Erik Zenga, also signed this Summer.
Eintracht Braunschweig has great tradition playing against Sandhausen at home and this game should be no difference. More mature for one season, Braunschweig should be able to claim the promotion this time and that can be only done with convincing home performances.
