Barcelona comes from one of most impressive performances this season, as the team scored no less than eight goals in a 8:0 victory away from home against Granada on Saturday evening. It seems that they hit the best possible form, as the team previously also won 6:0 at home against Getafe, scoring fourteen goals in last two matches played.
Atmosphere inside their locker room is surely boosted after these victories, as there is no league in which it’s easy to score fourteen goals in only two rounds. Luis Suarez had one of better matches this season as he scored three goals against Cordoba, while Messi followed him with two goals scored. Rakitic, Neymar and Pique have all scored a goal each in a victory that kept them two points above second placed Real Madrid. No doubt that the Spaniards will want to use momentum and get a victory here, taking some advantage in front of surely much tougher second leg for them. Coach Luis Enrique has no injury worries for this game.
Bayern Munich, on the other side, has few problems with injured players, actually could be said that they are in injury crisis so it’s no surprise that their coach Guardiola has rotated his squad a little in a 2:0 defeat against Leverkusen away from home last Saturday evening. The team has already secured the title having fourteen points more than second placed Wolfsburg, three rounds till the end of the regular part of Bundesliga.
So the decision was completely logical, especially cause they were coming from a 120 minutes of play against Dortmund in Cup competition last Tuesday night, being excluded from the semi-finals after losing the penalty kick series. Anyhow, with domestic title in pocket, they have now turned their complete attention to Champions League clash, where they have to get out with a positive result here and hope for much better situation with injured players in next two weeks when the returning leg will be played. As for injured players, the Germans will continue to miss some really important ones as striker Robert Lewandowski (38 matches, 21 goals till season), wingers Franck Ribery (23 matches, 9 goals), Arjen Robben (30 matches, 19 goals) and a bit less important, defenders David Alaba (26/2) and Holger Badstuber (14/1).
Barcelona would be quite a favorite in front of own fans, even if the Germans play with all players available. This way, when the Spanish side seems to be in a great form in attack, while the Germans probably miss their three key players, it’s hard to see anything but Barcelona’s victory, easy or hard.
