IT’S always nice to start the month with a Super Single winner and Dunfermline provided me with a cracker as they thumped Cowdenbeath 5-1 in the League Cup.
Earlier it was a good beginning to the Ladbrokes SPFL season as I took just four minutes to land my first winnner.
I called the live Celtic v Ross County game spot on with Leigh Griffiths to score first, Celtic -1, Celtic to win to nil and Celtic to win 2-0 or 3-0. I hope you were on some or all of them.
Unfortunately Zlatan Ibrahimovic didn’t bring up the 16-1 first-scorer double but at least PSG won the Super Cup to keep my 7-1 homes fivefold running after wins for Celtic -1, Hibs -1 and Raith. Rangers -1 will bring it up and can be covered now but I’m letting it run.
Rangers -1 is also need to bring up the Top Treble which also featured Raith and Hibs -1. If Rangers win by more than two my only Saturday loser will be 1pts on a both to score treble that was beaten by the Livingston v Clyde match.
The Ibrox men were superb last week as they hammered Hibs 6-2 and fans will be expecting more of the same when League One Peterhead visit. It’s a really tough task for the Highlanders and I expect another convincing win for Mark Warburton’s side with -2 paying 13-10 at Ladbrokes.
For my first Super Single I’m on Rangers -2 AH at 39-40 with Bet365 so the stake will be returned if they win by two. Peterhead have made two visits to Ibrox to face a lower-league Rangers, winning one and drawing one, but it was interesting to hear manager Jim McInally saying the fear factor has returned with that performance at Easter Road last weekend.
On Sunday there are another two big games in Scotland – Hearts v St Johnstone and Dundee United v Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership and I touched on all of those games in Saturday’s previews.
Hearts are expected to go well this season and are favourites without Celtic and Aberdeen. I expect them to live up to that reputation but St Johnstone are a streetwise side and a tough nut to crack. Jambos will be cheered on by a full house but this will be close and having seen Robbie Neilson’s men concede twice to League Two Arbroath on Thursday I’m tempted by both to score at 1-1 with William Hill and BetVictor.
As I said the other day I’d be all over Aberdeen if they weren’t bang in the middle of a Europa League tie with Kairat Almaty. Dons boss Derek McInnes says he’ll “use his squad” after the marathon trip to Kazakhstan so changes will be made.
And while McInnes doesn’t want to lose the game you get the impression he’d settle for a draw. Dundee United have lost many star players over the last seven months and are not the force they were.
But they have enough decent performers and a good boss to worry the Dons and as opposed to picking a winner I’d rather take 4-5 in under 2.5 goals.
In England we have the season’s curtain raiser with champions Chelsea taking on FA Cup winners Arsenal. It’s more like Mourinho v Wenger after some of the backbiting that has gone on all week.
Arsene Wenger is without a win in 13 against the Portuguese boss who had a right go at the Frenchman’s record this week but the Gunners must have as great chance of at Wembley and I’ll post a separate preview.
I’ll have a closer look at the British games and league encounters in the likes of Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium before putting up other top tips in the morning.
