SOMETIMES stats are there to be beaten and that was the case with Berwick v East Fife on Saturday.
The sides had met four times this season with three 3-2s and a 4-1 so both to score looked a no-brainer. But Berwick, who hit four the previous weekend at East Stirling, failed to keep their side of the bargain as they went down 3-0 at home.
Not to be put off I’m starting Sunday’s treble with another match that looks good on the stats – Sevilla v Rayo Vallecano.
It’s been 4-1, 2-1 and 5-2 Sevilla in the last three meetings so while another home win is expected Rayo tend to score at the Ramon Sanchez.
Also Sevilla have conceded and scored in their last five games while Rayo have netted in five of their last six.
Add Groningen v Feyenoord from the Dutch top flight. Groningen have netted at least two in five of the last six playings of this fixture including a 6-0 win three seasons ago.
Feyenoord struggled to a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Go Ahead last week but have netted eight in their last three matche son the road.
Stay in Holland to complete the treble with Twente v AZ Alkmaar. This has gone over 2.5 goals in five of six so that’s an alternative but it was 2-2 earlier this season and both teams have scored in AZ’s last six with a total of 31 goals.
Four of Twente’s last six have finished over 3.5 goals including a 5-0 defeat at home to PSV.
Both to score treble
Sevilla v Rayo (6pm)
Groningen v Feyenoord (1.30pm)
Twente v AZ (3.45pm)
