APR 24: HAMILTON v MOTHERWELL PREVIEW

FIRST game post-split in the Scottish Premiership is an interesting one and it looks a must-win for Motherwell.

They travel to Hamilton tonight needing to make up seven or eight points to avoid a relegation play-off – possibly with a Rangers side bossed by their previous manager Stuart McCall.

Accies will be gutted at failing to make the top six after sitting top earlier in the season under Alex Neil. Martin Canning’s men crashed 4-0 at Fir Park just last month and bookies are tempting us by making the visitors a biggest 23-10 (Stan James).

Under ex-boss Neil Accies walloped Well 4-0 in September and 5-0 last January. Prior to that 5-0 the previous four at New Douglas finished in draws – three of them 0-0.

So while Ian Baraclough’s side look a big price against a side with nothing but local pride to play for I’m keeping the draw on side and going Well draw no bet at 13-10 with McBookie and BetVictor.

Gareth Ainsworth and John Sutton both hit doubles in the 4-0 romp and to score tonight you can have Ainsworth at 4-1 with Bet365 and Sutton at 23-10 with Coral.

There have been at least four goals in each of the three meetings between the sides this season. In every match only one side has scored. A stats-based special from William Hill offers over 2.5 goals and no to both teams to score at 9-1.

William Hill make Ross County 11-8 favourites to collect most points in the bottom-six encounters. Well are 3-1 with Killie and Partick 9-2, Hamilton 12-1 and St Mirren 14-1. All sides begin on zero points.

Any Current Premiership team are 6-5 favourites to win the Premiership-Championship play-off. Rangers are 7-4 with Hibs 5-2, QoS 16-1 and Falkirk 40-1.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney is 7-4 favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award ahead of Celtic’s Stefan Johansen at 2-1. Virgi van Dijk is 9-4 and Dundee’s Greg Stewart the 8-1 outsider.

McBookie spokesman Paul Petrie said: “We actually thought Craig Gordon was a shoo-in for the award so the fact he isn’t even nominated makes it a very open market. It looks like Rooney will end the season as top scorer and that could be enough for him to win the award.”

Hearts star Jamie Walker is 15-8 favourite to win the Young Player of the Year gong.
